Contentsquare Pricing 2026: The Free Plan, the Growth Ladder, and the Replay Catch
Contentsquare’s 2026 self-serve pricing has two plans you can buy without talking to anyone: Free at $0 and Growth from $49/mo on monthly billing, metered by monthly sessions on a slider that runs from 7,000 sessions ($49) to 200,000 sessions ($739). Pro and Enterprise are custom-quoted, and so is anything above 240,000 sessions.(source) Annual billing is advertised at 20% off, which the plan comparison table on the same page shows as “from $39 a month”.
That is a bigger change than it sounds. When we wrote our Hotjar pricing guide, Hotjar’s pricing page had just started redirecting to Contentsquare, and what you landed on read like an enterprise sales page. It does not any more. The redirect is still there (hotjar.com/pricing sends a 308 to contentsquare.com/pricing, checked 12 October 2026), but the destination is now a proper self-serve price list with a free tier. If you are a Shopify merchant comparing Hotjar, Contentsquare and the Shopify-native tools, this is the page that matters, and this post walks through it line by line.
The 2026 Contentsquare pricing table
The Growth plan does not have a single price. You pick a monthly session volume and the price moves with it. These are the monthly-billing figures from the pricing page’s plan data on 12 October 2026:
| Monthly sessions | Growth, monthly billing |
|---|---|
| 7,000 | $49/mo |
| 10,000 | $69/mo |
| 15,000 | $99/mo |
| 20,000 | $119/mo |
| 25,000 | $139/mo |
| 30,000 | $159/mo |
| 35,000 | $179/mo |
| 45,000 | $219/mo |
| 60,000 | $279/mo |
| 75,000 | $339/mo |
| 85,000 | $369/mo |
| 100,000 | $409/mo |
| 120,000 | $469/mo |
| 150,000 | $569/mo |
| 200,000 | $739/mo |
| 240,000+ | “Let’s talk” |

Around that ladder:
- Free is $0 “forever” and is listed at up to 200,000 monthly sessions, one project, one month of data access.
- Pro and Enterprise are “Custom” with a “Book a demo” button. The comparison table puts both at 1 million sessions and up.
- Annual billing saves 20% according to the toggle on the page. The comparison table’s “From $39/month” for Growth is the annual figure at the 7,000-session tier. (The plan card itself rounds that to $40. We are quoting the table.)
- The plan comparison table covers Experience Analytics only. The page footnote says Contentsquare’s Experience Platform has separate Pro and Enterprise plans “with different packaging that isn’t reflected here”. If a sales rep quotes you for “the platform”, you are not buying the thing on this page.
- Surveys are a separate product line. Voice of Customer has its own Free plan (100 responses a month, three feedback widgets or surveys, one month of response access) and its own Growth plan “from $79/month” for 500 to 100,000 responses. The Experience Analytics Free card lists “basic surveys”, so check which limits apply to you before assuming surveys are covered by the analytics plan alone.
The replay catch: how many sessions are actually recorded
This is the part that is easy to miss and the part a Shopify merchant cares about most. The headline session number is the analytics allowance. Session replay capture is a separate row in the comparison table, and it reads, verbatim:
| Free | Growth | Pro | Enterprise | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly session replay capture | 5% sessions captured (max. 10k) | 15% sessions captured (min. 20k) | Up to 100% sessions captured | Up to 100% sessions captured |
| Session replay access | 1 month | 2 months | 2 months, up to 24 | 3 months, up to 24 |
| Analytics data access | 1 month | 13 months | 13 months | 13 months |
| Projects | 1 | 3 | Up to 6 | Unlimited |
So the Free plan’s “200,000 sessions” is 200,000 sessions of heatmap and funnel data, with replays for a 5% sample of them, capped at 10,000 a month. The plain reading of the Growth row is a 15% sample with a floor of 20,000 recordings. Only Pro and Enterprise, the custom-quoted plans, offer up to 100% capture.
For a merchant whose actual job is “watch the session where the $400 cart was abandoned”, a sample is the wrong shape. Sampling is fine for aggregate questions (which button gets clicked, where the funnel leaks). It is not fine when you want the specific session, because there is a 19-in-20 chance on Free, and a roughly 6-in-7 chance on Growth, that the one you want was never recorded. Read the row twice before you build a review habit around it.
Two more lines from the pricing FAQ worth knowing:
- Contentsquare’s own advice is to “select a plan that allows you to capture every session on your site”, and once you reach the sessions purchased on Growth, “you won’t be able to get more session data before the next month”. There is no overage. Data stops.
- A session is a visitor’s full journey across every page and ends after 30 minutes of inactivity. That is the standard definition, and it is why you have to convert to pageviews before comparing with a pageview-metered tool.
What each tier unlocks
The comparison table is long. Here are the rows that change between the two self-serve plans, which is where your decision actually lives:
| Feature | Free | Growth |
|---|---|---|
| Replays, heatmaps, funnels | Yes | Yes |
| Zone-based heatmaps | No | Engagement metrics |
| Journey analysis | No | Yes |
| Impact quantification | No | Evaluate Impact |
| Frustration Score | No | Yes |
| Filter by User ID, custom variables, frustration behaviours | No | Yes |
| Session replay summaries (AI) | No | Single session |
| Sense AI chat and heatmap summaries | No | Yes |
| MCP (connect with LLMs) | Up to 300 tool calls/month | Up to 36,000 tool calls/year |
| Pre-built integrations | 7 | 9 (adds Optimizely, AB Tasty, Kameleoon) |
| Support | AI-powered | Standard |
| SSO | Google OAuth | Google OAuth |
Form analysis, APIs, alerts, error analysis, real-user monitoring, SAML SSO, a dedicated customer success manager and the “115+ integrations” catalogue are all Pro or Enterprise. If any of those is the reason you are shopping, you are in a sales conversation, not on the slider.
Sessions vs pageviews: the conversion
Contentsquare meters sessions. Propel Replays, like most Shopify-native tools, meters pageviews. To compare them:
Approximate pageviews = monthly sessions x your pages per session
Littledata’s benchmark of 2,800 ecommerce sites puts the Shopify average at 2.8 pages per session.(source) At that ratio:
- 7,000 sessions is roughly 19,600 pageviews.
- 15,000 sessions is roughly 42,000 pageviews.
- 35,000 sessions is roughly 98,000 pageviews.
- 100,000 sessions is roughly 280,000 pageviews.
Use your own number. Shopify Analytics reports sessions and pageviews side by side, and a single-product store can run under 2 while a big-catalogue store with a blog can run over 4.
Contentsquare vs Propel Replays, tier by tier
Both columns are monthly billing, because Contentsquare publishes its per-tier prices that way. Propel’s annual prices are 25% lower; Contentsquare’s are advertised at 20% lower.
| Contentsquare Growth | Sessions | ≈ Pageviews | Propel plan that covers it | Contentsquare | Propel |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7,000-session tier | 7,000 | ~19,600 | Basic (20,000 pv) | $49/mo | $9.90/mo |
| 15,000-session tier | 15,000 | ~42,000 | Premium (80,000 pv) | $99/mo | $39.90/mo |
| 35,000-session tier | 35,000 | ~98,000 | Enterprise (100,000 pv) | $179/mo | $59.90/mo |
| 100,000-session tier | 100,000 | ~280,000 | Enterprise (280,000 pv) | $409/mo | $239.90/mo |
Propel’s Enterprise plan starts at 100,000 pageviews for $59.90/mo and adds $10/mo per extra 10,000 pageviews, which is how the bottom row is built. Every Propel plan records every session, with 30-day retention, and the free sampler covers 750 pageviews a month with unlimited heatmaps and one survey.
The honest read: Propel is about 5x cheaper at Contentsquare’s entry tier, 2.5x at 15,000 sessions, 3x at 35,000, and only about 1.7x at 100,000 sessions. The bigger the store, the less the price argument carries. At the top of the slider you should be choosing on fit, and Contentsquare’s fit is genuinely broad.
What Contentsquare has that Propel does not, from its own plan table:
- A free tier that is enormous on analytics volume. 200,000 sessions of heatmaps and funnels for $0 is more than any Shopify-native free plan, ours included. If you only want aggregate click and funnel data, that is hard to argue with.
- Thirteen months of analytics history on Growth, against our 30-day replay retention. If you compare this Black Friday to last Black Friday inside the tool, that matters.
- Zone-based heatmaps, journey analysis and a frustration score on Growth, and a much longer list on Pro.
- A multi-site shape. Three projects on Growth. Propel installs per Shopify store.
What the other direction looks like:
- Every session recorded. No 5% or 15% sampling on any Propel plan. When an insight alert flags an unusually big abandoned cart, the replay exists.
- Shopify fields in the filters. Propel replays can be filtered by customer tag, order count, total spent, cart value, UTM and the rest of the Shopify customer record. Contentsquare’s Growth filters are by User ID and custom variables, which means you wire that up yourself.
- Install. Propel is a Shopify theme app embed with a measured 0ms Core Web Vitals impact and no theme.liquid edits. Contentsquare does have a Shopify App Store listing (see below), so the install gap is smaller than it was a year ago.
- Surveys without a second product line. Propel includes surveys on every plan, and even the free sampler gets one.
The Hotjar question
If you are here because you typed “Hotjar pricing” and ended up on contentsquare.com, three things:
- The redirect is permanent. hotjar.com/pricing answers with a 308 to contentsquare.com/pricing. There is no Hotjar price list to find any more.
- The shape changed, mostly in your favour. Hotjar’s last published plans capped daily sessions at 35, 100, 500 and 1,500, which a Shopify store on a paid-traffic day could blow through by lunchtime. Growth is a monthly slider, so a 10,000-session month is a 10,000-session month however it is distributed. The full history is in our Hotjar pricing post.
- The replay sampling is new to you. Hotjar’s plans recorded the sessions within the cap. Contentsquare’s Free and Growth plans sample. If replays are what you used Hotjar for, that row is the one to check.
Contentsquare on the Shopify App Store
Contentsquare has a Shopify App Store listing, “Contentsquare Analytics”, launched 9 December 2025, marked “Free plan available”, with no reviews at the time of writing (12 October 2026).(source) The listing describes replays, heatmaps and journey analysis on storefront and checkout pages. A listing with zero reviews ten months after launch tells you the Shopify channel is young for them, not that the product is bad; the product is the same platform behind 1.3 million websites by their count. Read the listing’s data-access section before installing, as you would for any analytics app.
When Contentsquare is the right call
- You want aggregate analytics at volume for nothing. The Free plan’s 200,000 sessions of heatmap and funnel data is the most generous free analytics allowance in this category.
- You run more than one site or store. Three projects on Growth, six on Pro.
- You need long history. Thirteen months on Growth.
- You are an enterprise buyer anyway. Error analysis, real-user monitoring, SAML, a CSM and the integrations catalogue are all there on Pro and Enterprise, which is what Contentsquare has always been built for.
- Your team already lives in Contentsquare. If procurement has picked the analytics layer, a second replay tool is friction.
When a Shopify-native tool fits better
- You want the specific session, not a sample. This is the whole case. Sampling at 5% or 15% means the replay you want usually was not recorded.
- You are Shopify-only and small to mid-sized. The price gap is widest here, about 5x at the entry tier.
- You want Shopify context in the filters without wiring custom variables.
- You want surveys included, not a second subscription from $79/mo once the basic limits run out.
- You want proactive triage. Propel’s insight alerts surface unusually big orders, abandoned carts and abandoned checkouts relative to your store’s baseline, and product-page alerts flag drops in add-to-cart rate, so you know which sessions to watch first.
The honest verdict
Contentsquare’s 2026 pricing is a real improvement on the sales-only page that greeted Hotjar refugees a year ago. There is a free plan, there is a published ladder, and the ladder is sane: $49 to $739 a month for 7,000 to 200,000 sessions, with annual billing 20% lower.
The catch is one row in the comparison table. The self-serve plans sample session replays, 5% on Free and 15% on Growth, and the only way to record every session is a custom-quoted Pro or Enterprise plan. For aggregate analytics that is fine. For the Shopify merchant whose question is “show me the session where the big cart walked”, it is the difference between a tool that answers and a tool that usually can’t. Decide which question you are asking, convert sessions to pageviews with your own Shopify Analytics numbers, and then compare.
