Honest comparison · Updated October 2026

The best MIDA alternative for Shopify,
ranked honestly.

MIDA is a good Shopify-native session replay and heatmap app, and it is the closest peer we have. This page exists because merchants comparing the two Shopify-native apps keep landing on it, and because a few of MIDA's plan decisions in 2026 send people looking. Here are the six best MIDA alternatives for Shopify merchants, with prices read from the App Store this month, real trade-offs, and the cases where MIDA is still the right answer.

6 ALTERNATIVES · COMPARED ON SHOPIFY-FIT, PRICING, AND HEATMAP TYPES
TL;DR

The short answer.

MIDA is a Shopify-only session replay and heatmap app with a Built for Shopify badge, a 4.9-star rating across 610 reviews, and a free plan of 250 sessions a month. Its paid ladder on the Shopify App Store in October 2026 is Basic $9.90/mo for 5,000 sessions, Growth $24.90/mo for 15,000 and Enterprise $44.90/mo for 40,000, with the revenue click and conversion heatmaps it leads with starting on Growth. None of that is a problem. It is a well-made app from a team that understands merchants.

If you run a Shopify store and you are looking for a MIDA alternative, the answer is almost always Propel Replays: the other Shopify-native app, on the App Store a year earlier, priced by pageviews (20,000 for $9.90/mo), with replays that filter by every Shopify customer field, insight alerts that surface the day's biggest orders and abandoned carts, product-page alerts, and a tracking script with a measured 0ms impact on Core Web Vitals. Free up to 750 pageviews a month with unlimited heatmaps.

If you are not only on Shopify, Microsoft Clarity is the strongest free option and ships five heatmap types. Lucky Orange bundles live chat and announcements and now has a free App Store plan. Contentsquare (where Hotjar's pricing page now sends you) has the biggest free tier on analytics volume. Mouseflow has the most heatmap types. Crazy Egg pairs scroll maps with built-in A/B testing.

Picking a MIDA alternative is mostly a "which Shopify-native workflow" question. If scroll maps and revenue-overlaid heatmaps are what you use every week, MIDA is still a strong pick. If the replay layer, the alerts and the Shopify-field filters are what you use, Propel is the better fit.

Why people search for this

Why merchants are looking for a MIDA alternative in 2026.

Give MIDA its due first. It is genuinely Shopify-native, which only two apps in this category are. It ships click and scroll maps on every plan, revenue click and conversion heatmaps that overlay add-to-cart and purchase outcomes on the page, order-linked recordings, customer-level session history, per-replay AI summaries, bot filtering and an AI Assistant add-on. The App Store listing carries the Built for Shopify badge. None of that is the issue. Four things send merchants looking anyway:

  1. They are comparing the two Shopify-native apps. MIDA and Propel Replays are the only two session replay apps on the Shopify App Store built on Shopify primitives from day one. Most merchants evaluating one install the other's free plan for a week. That is the right move, and this page is partly a guide to doing it.
  2. The headline features start on the second paid tier. Revenue click tracking, conversion heatmaps and dynamic heatmaps are listed on MIDA's Growth plan ($24.90/mo) and above, not on Basic ($9.90/mo). A merchant who installed for the revenue heatmaps and landed on Basic finds the feature they came for is a tier up.
  3. The session meter at the entry tier. MIDA's Basic plan covers 5,000 sessions a month. At Littledata's October 2026 Shopify median of 2.7 pages per session, that is roughly 13,500 pageviews, against Propel's 20,000 pageviews on its $9.90/mo Basic plan. The gap closes at higher tiers (see the FAQ), so this one matters most for stores under about 15,000 pageviews a month.
  4. MIDA is Shopify-only. So is Propel. A brand that also runs a WordPress blog, a WooCommerce outlet or a headless property needs one of the multi-platform tools below, and that is a real reason to leave both Shopify-native apps behind.

Notice what is not on the list: MIDA is not shutting down, not sampling replays, and not mid-acquisition. This is the friendliest alternatives page on the site, because the tool it is about is good.

1

Propel Replays

Best for Shopify

The other Shopify-native session replay app: on the App Store since 2021, priced by pageviews, with alerts that tell you which sessions to watch first.

Propel Replays is a Shopify-native session replay, heatmap and survey app from Propel Commerce, a small independent studio that has been shipping Shopify apps since 2019. It started as the tool our founder wanted while running a Shopify store and trying to work out why paid traffic was not converting. It launched on the Shopify App Store in 2021, a year before MIDA, and is rated 4.9 stars across 700+ reviews at the time of writing.

What it does: records every visitor session, generates click and area heatmaps for any page (unlimited on every plan, including free), AI-summarizes each replay into two sentences when you open it, runs surveys on all pages, specific products, products by collection or time on page, and lets you filter every replay by any Shopify customer field: order count, total spent, customer tag, cart value, UTM, device, country. Insight alerts surface the day's biggest orders, biggest abandoned carts and biggest abandoned checkouts relative to your store's baseline; product-page alerts flag drops in add-to-cart rate on product pages before they bleed conversion.

Where it wins vs MIDA: the layer around the replay. Insight alerts and product-page alerts mean you are not triaging hundreds of recordings to find the one that matters; we have not seen an equivalent on MIDA's listing. Replay filters speak every Shopify customer field out of the box. The tracking script ships as a Shopify theme app embed that loads async after the rest of the page, with a measured 0ms impact on Core Web Vitals; MIDA does not publish a comparable number, so we will not guess at theirs. Pricing is by pageviews, which at the entry tier buys more volume for the same $9.90. And support is a named human: Tom, our Support Team Lead, is called out by name in App Store reviews.

Where it falls short: heatmaps today are click and area; scroll and movement maps are on the roadmap, and MIDA ships scroll maps now. There is no revenue-overlaid heatmap. Replay retention is 30 days on every plan. Shopify only, like MIDA. If scroll depth or revenue-per-click on the page is your weekly question, read the full head-to-head before deciding; MIDA may be the better fit for you.

"We transitioned from a different heatmap application and so far we're very impressed with the features with Propel."

2

Microsoft Clarity

Best free, multi-platform

Free, no traffic limits, five heatmap types. The strongest MIDA alternative if you are not only on Shopify.

What it is: Microsoft's free behavioural analytics tool. Session recordings, heatmaps, dead-click and rage-click detection, per-replay AI summaries, a Google Analytics integration. No paid tier; Microsoft's own FAQ says it is free with no traffic, site or member limits.

Where it wins vs MIDA: the heatmap set is wider than MIDA's and it costs nothing. Clarity's documentation lists click maps (all, dead, rage, error, first and last clicks), scroll maps, area maps, conversion maps and attention maps, with no minimum traffic to generate one. It runs on any platform, so a brand with a Shopify store and a WordPress site covers both for free (the real tradeoffs of "free forever").

Where it falls short for Shopify: it gives up the thing MIDA and Propel share. Filters do not map to Shopify customer fields, replays do not link back to orders, there is no Shopify App Store listing (you paste a script), and the data lives on Microsoft's servers under terms that allow aggregated, anonymized use of it. For a Shopify merchant who chose MIDA for its Shopify-nativeness, Clarity is a step sideways on price and a step back on fit.

Pricing
Free, unlimited. No paid tier. 30-day recording retention.
Best for
Non-Shopify or multi-platform sites, zero budgets, and a free backstop beside a Shopify-native tool.
3

Lucky Orange

Widest feature bundle

The multi-platform veteran with a Built for Shopify badge, live chat in the bundle, and a free App Store plan as of this month.

What it is: Lucky Orange has been around since 2010. Session recordings, click, scroll and movement heatmaps, conversion funnels, surveys, announcements, form analytics and live chat in one subscription. On the Shopify App Store it is rated 4.6 stars across 902 reviews and carries the Built for Shopify badge.

Where it wins vs MIDA: breadth, and platform reach. Nobody else on this list bundles live chat and on-site announcements with replays, and a chat transcript sitting next to the recording of the seconds before the message is a real workflow. It runs on anything that hosts a script, so a Shopify store plus a non-Shopify property is one tool. The Shopify App Store ladder now starts with a free plan of 100 sessions a month and a $19/mo Launch plan for 500 sessions (full Lucky Orange pricing breakdown).

Where it falls short: the session allowances are small for the money (3,500 sessions on the $39/mo Build plan, against MIDA's 5,000 for $9.90), the script bundles every feature into one payload, the filters are built for generic web properties rather than Shopify customer fields, and there are two different price ladders depending on whether you read luckyorange.com or the App Store listing. The UI also shows its 15 years.

Pricing (App Store)
Free up to 100 sessions/mo. Launch $19/mo (500 sessions), Build $39/mo (3,500), Grow $89/mo (10,000). 20% off yearly.
Best for
Stores wanting live chat and announcements bundled with replays, or running more than one platform.
4

Contentsquare (Hotjar)

Biggest free tier

Where Hotjar's pricing page now sends you. A huge free plan, zone-based heatmaps on paid tiers, and sampled replays below the Pro tier.

What it is: a full digital-experience analytics suite: session replay, click, scroll and move maps, zone-based heatmaps that attach engagement and revenue metrics to each page element, journey analysis, funnels and surveys. hotjar.com/pricing redirects here, so this is the product a Hotjar signup actually gets.

Where it wins vs MIDA: the free plan covers up to 200,000 sessions a month with heatmaps, funnels and replays included, against MIDA's 250 sessions. Zone-based heatmaps with revenue per element are the closest thing on this list to MIDA's revenue click heatmaps, and the analytics history (13 months on Growth) is far longer. Enterprise procurement is there if you need it.

Where it falls short: the self-serve plans sample session replays. Contentsquare's own plan table reads 5% of sessions captured on Free and 15% on Growth, with full capture only on the quoted Pro and Enterprise plans, so the specific session behind an abandoned cart usually was not recorded. Growth starts at $49/mo on monthly billing for 7,000 sessions. The filter model is user IDs and custom variables, not Shopify customers and orders, and the Shopify App Store listing (December 2025) had no reviews when we last checked (Contentsquare pricing 2026, Contentsquare alternatives).

Pricing
Free up to 200,000 sessions/mo (1-month data access, 5% of replays). Growth from $49/mo monthly, $39/mo annual, for 7,000 sessions.
Best for
Large sites that want aggregate heatmaps and funnels for free, and enterprise buyers comparing suites.
5

Mouseflow

Most heatmap types

Seven heatmap types and the deepest friction and form analytics. Multi-platform, no Shopify lane.

What it is: a Danish behaviour-analytics tool whose heatmap set is the widest in the category: click, scroll, movement, attention, friction, interactive and geo, with a split view to compare any two. Friction detection (rage clicks, dead clicks, error clicks, form drop-off) is the loudest and best feature. There is a free plan at 500 sessions a month.

Where it wins vs MIDA: heatmap breadth, and per-field form analytics nobody else here matches. If the heatmap types are what drew you to MIDA, Mouseflow has more of them. Essential is $25/mo on annual billing for 5,000 sessions, Advanced $109/mo, Premium $319/mo (full Mouseflow pricing breakdown).

Where it falls short: no Shopify App Store listing, no Shopify-specific filters, and most of the seven types answer questions a storefront rarely asks. A Shopify store has two forms that matter, checkout and newsletter capture, and checkout is off-limits to a storefront script anyway.

Pricing
Free up to 500 sessions/mo. Essential from $25/mo on annual billing for 5,000 sessions.
Best for
Form-heavy sites and teams whose CRO work is friction-event triage.
6

Crazy Egg

Heatmaps plus A/B testing

The original heatmap tool. Five report types, side-by-side comparison, and built-in split testing. Not a Shopify app.

What it is: a heatmap-first product with click, scroll, confetti, overlay and list maps, AI analysis on every report, device auto-segmentation, and A/B testing from the Plus tier. Installed by pasting a snippet; Shopify is one integration among many.

Where it wins vs MIDA: confetti maps are a genuinely different way to read clicks (every click as a dot, coloured by traffic source, device or UTM), and testing the fix in the same tool that found the problem is something no Shopify-native app does. Any two heatmaps can be compared side by side.

Where it falls short: heatmap reports are capped per plan (5 on the $29/mo Starter, 75 on the $99/mo Plus), which is tight for a store with a dozen product pages worth watching, against unlimited heatmaps on MIDA and Propel. Recordings are capped too (50 a month on Starter). No Shopify App Store listing and no Shopify-specific filters (Crazy Egg alternatives for Shopify).

Pricing
30-day free trial. Starter $29/mo on annual billing for 5,000 tracked pageviews and 5 heatmap reports; Plus $99/mo with A/B testing.
Best for
Teams that want scroll maps and split tests from one tool and do not need Shopify-shaped filters.
At a glance

MIDA alternatives, side-by-side.

The same six tools plus MIDA itself, scored on the things that matter for Shopify merchants, including the heatmap types that bring most people to MIDA in the first place.

Pricing reflects the lowest non-free paid plan as listed on each vendor's Shopify App Store listing or pricing page on 26 October 2026. MIDA and Lucky Orange figures are from their App Store listings; Lucky Orange's own site lists a different ladder. App Store ratings are Shopify App Store. "0ms CWV" reflects Propel's measured Lighthouse delta; the other vendors do not publish a CWV claim, so we do not guess at one.

Migration guide

Switching from MIDA to Propel.

Start by being honest about which parts of MIDA you used in the last 90 days. If the answer is the scroll maps and the revenue heatmaps every week, stay, or at least run the parallel test below before deciding. If the answer is "I opened the replays when something looked off and I never got round to the heatmaps", the switch is cheap and the alerts will do the opening for you.

The standard "what about my data?" worry: you cannot migrate it, and this is industry-wide rather than a MIDA problem. Session replays are stored as compressed DOM events in a vendor-specific format; heatmaps are derived from those events; neither translates between tools. Fresh data accumulates fast. A store doing a few hundred sessions a day has readable click heatmaps within 24 to 48 hours of installing Propel and a useful replay library inside a week.

Concrete remapping for Shopify merchants moving from MIDA to Propel: session replays → covered, every session, plus an AI summary on each and insight alerts that surface the day's biggest orders, biggest abandoned carts and biggest abandoned checkouts. Order-linked recordings → covered; replays link back to the order in Shopify admin. Click heatmaps → covered, unlimited on every plan, plus area heatmaps. Scroll maps and revenue heatmaps → not like-for-like today; scroll and movement maps are on the roadmap. Funnel analytics → Propel ships conversion funnels, and Shopify Analytics covers the storefront funnel natively. Surveys → covered on every plan, triggered on all pages, specific products, products by collection or time on page, with responses linked to the replay behind them. Segment filters → every Shopify customer field, out of the box.

The mechanics are unusually clean because both apps install from the Shopify App Store as theme app embeds. Install Propel, toggle the embed on, and recordings start within 30 seconds; there is no snippet to remove and no theme.liquid to edit. Run both for a week or two on the same traffic and compare the dashboards on real sessions, not demo data. When you are ready, uninstall MIDA from the App Store, which removes its script automatically, and cancel before the next billing cycle. Export anything you specifically want to keep first.

— FAQ

MIDA alternative FAQ

Why would a Shopify merchant look for a MIDA alternative?
Three reasons come up. The first is simply comparison shopping: MIDA and Propel Replays are the two Shopify-native session replay and heatmap apps on the App Store, so most people evaluating one end up looking at the other. The second is plan shape. MIDA meters by sessions and gates its headline revenue and conversion heatmaps to the $24.90/mo Growth plan and above, so a merchant on Basic who installed for those features goes looking. The third is platform: MIDA is Shopify-only, so a brand that also runs a WooCommerce or WordPress property needs a multi-platform tool like Lucky Orange, Contentsquare or Microsoft Clarity.
What's the best MIDA alternative for Shopify?
Propel Replays. It is the other Shopify-native app in the category, on the App Store a year before MIDA (2021 vs July 2022), rated 4.9 stars across 700+ reviews, and priced by pageviews rather than sessions: 20,000 pageviews for $9.90/mo against MIDA's 5,000 sessions for the same price. Every replay can be filtered by any Shopify customer field, insight alerts surface the day's biggest orders and abandoned carts so you know which sessions to watch first, product-page alerts flag add-to-cart drops, and the tracking script has a measured 0ms impact on Core Web Vitals. Free up to 750 pageviews a month with unlimited heatmaps. The full head-to-head is at Propel vs MIDA.
Is MIDA free?
MIDA has a free plan: 250 sessions a month, live session replays, unlimited heatmaps, abandoned cart recordings, AI summaries and 30 days of storage, per its Shopify App Store listing in October 2026. Paid plans are Basic $9.90/mo for 5,000 sessions, Growth $24.90/mo for 15,000 and Enterprise $44.90/mo for 40,000, each with a 7-day trial and an optional AI Assistant add-on at $5, $10 or $15 a month. For comparison, Propel's free plan covers 750 pageviews a month, which at Littledata's Shopify median of 2.7 pages per session is roughly 280 sessions.
Does Propel have scroll heatmaps like MIDA?
Not yet. Propel ships click and area heatmaps today, unlimited on every plan including free, segmented by device; scroll and movement heatmaps are on the near-term roadmap. MIDA ships click and scroll maps on every plan and adds revenue click and conversion heatmaps on Growth and above. If scroll depth is the question you need answered every week, MIDA is the more complete Shopify-native heatmap tool right now and we say so. If the replay workflow around the heatmap matters more, Propel is the better fit.
Is Microsoft Clarity a good MIDA replacement?
For a non-Shopify site, it is the obvious one: free at any volume, five heatmap types (click, scroll, area, conversion and attention), per-replay AI summaries, no sampling. For a Shopify store it gives up the thing MIDA and Propel share, which is filters and alerts that understand Shopify customers, orders and carts. Clarity also has no Shopify App Store listing and its terms let Microsoft use aggregated, anonymized behavioural data from your store. Good free backstop; weaker primary tool for a Shopify merchant.
How do MIDA and Propel compare on price at higher traffic?
Closer than at the entry tier, and honestly MIDA edges some rungs on list price. MIDA's Enterprise is $44.90/mo for 40,000 sessions. Propel's Enterprise is $59.90/mo for 100,000 pageviews, which at 2.7 pages per session is roughly 37,000 sessions, and $44.92/mo on annual billing. So month to month MIDA is about $15 cheaper at that volume; on annual billing the two are within a few cents. At the entry tier Propel includes more volume ($9.90 for 20,000 pageviews, about 7,400 sessions, versus $9.90 for 5,000 sessions). Check both live pricing pages before you buy; both vendors changed prices in 2026.
Will I lose my MIDA data if I switch?
Yes, and this is true of every tool in the category. Session replays are stored as compressed DOM events in a vendor-specific format and heatmaps are derived from those events, so neither migrates between vendors. Fresh data accumulates fast: a store doing a few hundred sessions a day has readable click heatmaps within 24 to 48 hours of installing a new tool and a useful replay library inside a week. Export anything you specifically want to keep from MIDA before you cancel.
How long does it take to switch from MIDA to Propel?
Under an hour of active work. Both apps install from the Shopify App Store as theme app embeds, so there is no snippet to remove and no theme.liquid to edit. Install Propel, toggle the embed on, and recordings start within 30 seconds. Run both for a week or two on the same traffic, compare the dashboards, then uninstall MIDA from the App Store, which removes its script automatically, and cancel before the next billing cycle.
