Best Shopify Heatmap Apps in 2026: 7 Tools Compared Honestly
The best heatmap app for a Shopify store depends on one question before any other: do you want a tool that understands Shopify, or a tool that ships the most heatmap types? Nobody on this list does both perfectly. We make one of these apps, so we are not neutral, but we would rather you install the tool that fits your store than churn off ours in three weeks. Where a competitor is the better pick, we say so.
Here are the seven heatmap tools worth considering for a Shopify storefront in 2026, ranked by overall fit for a typical Shopify merchant. Every price below was read from the vendor’s own pricing page or its Shopify App Store listing on 26 October 2026, and every heatmap-type claim comes from the vendor’s own documentation. Prices drift, so check the live page before you buy.
TL;DR: the best Shopify heatmap app by need
| If you want… | Pick |
|---|---|
| Best Shopify-native heatmap app | Propel Replays |
| Scroll maps today, Shopify-native | MIDA |
| Best free option, any traffic volume | Microsoft Clarity |
| Heatmaps plus chat, surveys and funnels in one tool | Lucky Orange |
| Enterprise analytics suite with a huge free tier | Contentsquare (Hotjar) |
| The most heatmap types | Mouseflow |
| Scroll maps plus built-in A/B testing | Crazy Egg |
What a heatmap can and cannot tell a Shopify merchant
A quick level-set, because the heatmap-type arms race hides what actually matters. A click heatmap shows where visitors tap on a page. A scroll map shows how far down they get. An area heatmap aggregates interaction on a region rather than a pixel. Movement maps follow the cursor, which does not exist on the phone most of your visitors are holding. If the vocabulary is new, what is a heatmap? covers the four types plainly, and how to read a heatmap covers what to do with one.
For a Shopify storefront, three things matter more than the number of map types on the pricing page:
- Device segmentation. Littledata’s October 2026 benchmark of Shopify stores puts the median store’s mobile share of sessions at 67%.(source) An unsegmented heatmap is a mobile heatmap with desktop noise on top. Every tool below segments by device; check that the segmentation is one click away, not buried.
- A path back to the session. A hot spot on a badge that is not a link tells you something happened. The replay of a visitor tapping it four times tells you what. The tools worth paying for let you go from a heatmap region to the recordings behind it.
- Zero performance cost. A heatmap script that loads synchronously hurts Core Web Vitals, and Core Web Vitals hurt the conversion rate you were trying to improve. Prefer a Shopify theme app embed that loads async after the page.
One more Shopify-specific limit: Shopify’s hosted checkout does not run storefront scripts on standard plans, so for most of these tools the cart page or cart drawer is the last thing a heatmap sees. Propel records checkout on its Enterprise plan for Shopify Plus stores only, and MIDA lists checkout recordings on its Enterprise plan. Everyone else stops at the cart.
1. Propel Replays: best Shopify-native heatmap app
Propel Replays is a Shopify-native session replay, heatmap and survey app, on the Shopify App Store since 2021 and rated 4.9 stars across 700+ reviews at the time of writing.(source) Heatmaps are one third of the product, which is the point: every heatmap sits on top of a replay library and a set of alerts that tell you which sessions to watch first.
Heatmap types. Click heatmaps and area heatmaps, segmented by device (mobile, tablet, desktop), rendered as an overlay on the live store so a theme update never leaves you reading a stale screenshot. Heatmaps are unlimited on every plan, including the free one. Scroll and movement heatmaps are on the near-term roadmap and are not shipped today; if scroll depth is the question you need answered this week, read the MIDA and Clarity entries below.
Where it wins. The layer under the heatmap. Every replay can be filtered by any Shopify customer field (customer tag, order count, total spent, cart value, UTM, device, country), each replay is AI-summarized when you open it, and insight alerts surface the day’s biggest orders, biggest abandoned carts and biggest abandoned checkouts so you are not scrubbing 500 recordings to find the one that matters. Product-page alerts flag drops in add-to-cart rate on a product page before the weekly numbers do. The tracking script ships as a Shopify theme app embed, loads async at the bottom of the page, and has a measured 0ms impact on Core Web Vitals. Install to first recording is under 30 seconds; a readable heatmap takes a day or two of normal traffic.
Where it falls short. Shopify only. Two heatmap types today rather than five or seven. No heatmap date filter yet. If you want to compare two time periods side by side inside the heatmap view, Clarity and Crazy Egg do that and we do not.
Pricing. Free up to 750 pageviews a month with unlimited heatmaps. Basic $9.90/mo ($7.43/mo billed annually) for 20,000 pageviews, Plus $19.90/mo for 40,000, Premium $39.90/mo for 80,000, Enterprise from $59.90/mo for 100,000. 7-day free trial on every paid plan. Full detail on the Shopify heatmaps feature page.
Pick Propel when you run a Shopify store, you want heatmaps that lead somewhere (replays, alerts, Shopify-aware filters), and page speed matters to you. Don’t pick Propel when scroll maps are non-negotiable today or you also run a non-Shopify property.
2. MIDA: best Shopify-native pick for scroll maps today
MIDA is the other Shopify-native session replay and heatmap app, on the App Store since July 2022 and rated 4.9 stars across 610 reviews.(source) It leads with heatmaps in its marketing, and its listing’s headline features are revenue heatmaps and conversion maps.
Heatmap types. Click maps and scroll maps on every plan, with unlimited heatmaps even on the free tier.(source) The Growth plan and above add dynamic heatmaps, revenue click tracking and conversion heatmaps, which overlay add-to-cart and purchase outcomes on the page rather than raw clicks.(source) That is a genuinely useful idea for a storefront, and we give MIDA credit for shipping it.
Where it wins. Scroll maps, today, in a Shopify-native app. Order-linked recordings and customer-level session history. A free plan that includes abandoned cart recordings and AI summaries.
Where it falls short. Revenue and conversion heatmaps start on the $24.90/mo Growth plan, so the headline feature is not on Basic. Plans are metered by sessions rather than pageviews: at Littledata’s Shopify median of 2.7 pages per session, MIDA’s 5,000-session Basic plan covers roughly 13,500 pageviews against Propel’s 20,000 for the same $9.90.(source) We wrote up the full head-to-head in Propel vs MIDA and the switching guide in MIDA alternatives for Shopify.
Pricing (Shopify App Store, October 2026). Free up to 250 sessions a month with 30 days of storage. Basic $9.90/mo for 5,000 sessions. Growth $24.90/mo for 15,000 sessions. Enterprise $44.90/mo for 40,000 sessions with checkout recordings. An AI Assistant add-on is $5, $10 or $15 a month by tier. 7-day free trial.(source)
Pick MIDA when you want a Shopify-native app and scroll maps or revenue-overlaid heatmaps are the feature you will use weekly. Don’t pick MIDA when you are on a plan that does not include the revenue heatmaps you came for, or you want the alerting and Shopify-field filtering workflow around the replay layer.
3. Microsoft Clarity: best free heatmap tool
Microsoft Clarity is free with no paid tier and no traffic limit, and its heatmap set is the broadest of any free tool.
Heatmap types. Five: click maps (with all-clicks, dead-click, rage-click, error-click, first-click and last-click variants), scroll maps, area maps, conversion maps for ecommerce purchase rate, and attention maps showing time spent on each part of the page.(source) There is no minimum traffic to generate one, and Clarity’s documentation says heatmaps return within seconds.
Where it wins. The price, obviously, and the breadth. A merchant who wants scroll maps and attention maps for nothing gets them here. The compare view lets you put two heatmaps side by side to see how a change landed.
Where it falls short for Shopify. Clarity has no concept of a Shopify customer, order or cart; segmentation is by URL, device, browser, country, referrer and tags you push yourself. There is no Shopify App Store listing; you install it as a script. And Clarity’s terms let Microsoft use aggregated, anonymized behavioural data from your store, which is a fair trade for most merchants and a line some Shopify Plus brands will not cross (the real tradeoffs of free forever).
Pricing. Free. That is the whole pricing page.
Pick Clarity when budget is zero, you are not on Shopify, or you want a free backstop alongside a Shopify-native tool. Don’t pick Clarity when your questions have “customer tag” or “order count” in them, or the data clause is a problem.
4. Lucky Orange: best multi-feature suite with heatmaps
Lucky Orange has been around since 2010 and is one of the most-installed analytics apps on the Shopify App Store, rated 4.6 stars across 902 reviews with a Built for Shopify badge.(source) Heatmaps (“Dynamic Heatmaps”) sit alongside session recordings, surveys, announcements, conversion funnels, form analytics and live chat in one subscription.
Heatmap types. Click and scroll heatmaps, plus movement maps for desktop mouse traffic. The App Store listing describes the heatmaps as showing where shoppers click, scroll and get stuck.(source)
Where it wins. One vendor, many things. If you also want on-site chat and announcements, nobody else on this list bundles them. Multi-platform, so a brand with a Shopify store and a WordPress content site can run one tool.
Where it falls short. The script bundles every feature into one payload, heavier by design than a single-purpose theme app embed. Filters are built for generic web properties rather than Shopify customer fields. And the pricing has two ladders: the Shopify App Store one below, and a different one on luckyorange.com (full Lucky Orange pricing breakdown).
Pricing (Shopify App Store, October 2026). Free up to 100 sessions a month. Launch $19/mo for 500 sessions. Build $39/mo for 3,500 sessions with 60 days of storage. Grow $89/mo for 10,000 sessions. Yearly billing is 20% less, and a Discovery AI add-on runs $5 to $20 a month by tier.(source) The vendor’s own site lists Build at $32/mo on annual billing and Grow at $72/mo, with larger Expand and Scale tiers above.(source)
Pick Lucky Orange when you want chat, surveys and heatmaps from one vendor or you run more than one platform. Don’t pick Lucky Orange when mobile page speed is sensitive or you want Shopify-shaped filters.
5. Contentsquare (Hotjar): best enterprise-shaped option
Hotjar’s pricing page now redirects to Contentsquare, so this entry covers the product you would actually sign up for. Contentsquare is a full digital-experience analytics suite with heatmaps as one module.
Heatmap types. Click maps, scroll maps and move maps, which Contentsquare’s own FAQ lists as the standard set, plus zone-based heatmaps on paid plans that attach engagement and revenue metrics to each element of the page.(source) Heatmaps are included on the Free plan; heatmap AI summaries and zone-based heatmaps start on Growth.(source)
Where it wins. The free tier is enormous on analytics volume: $0 for up to 200,000 sessions a month, with heatmaps, funnels and replays, limited to one month of data access. Zone-based heatmaps with revenue per element are the most sophisticated heatmap product on this list. Enterprise procurement (SSO, long data history, journey analysis) is there if you need it.
Where it falls short for Shopify. The self-serve plans sample session replays (5% on Free, 15% on Growth), so the path from a heatmap hot spot back to a specific session often leads nowhere. The filter model works on user IDs and custom variables rather than Shopify customers and orders. Its Shopify App Store listing launched in December 2025 and had no reviews when we last checked. Full detail in Contentsquare pricing 2026 and Contentsquare alternatives for Shopify.
Pricing. Free up to 200,000 sessions a month. Growth from $49/mo on monthly billing ($39/mo annual) for 7,000 sessions, scaling by session volume. Pro and Enterprise are quote-only.(source)
Pick Contentsquare when you want aggregate heatmaps on a large site for free, or you are an enterprise buyer comparing suites. Don’t pick Contentsquare when the specific session behind a hot spot is what you need and you are below the Pro tier.
6. Mouseflow: the most heatmap types
Mouseflow is a Danish behaviour-analytics tool whose heatmap set is the widest in the category.
Heatmap types. Seven: click, scroll, movement, attention, friction, interactive and geo, with a split view to compare any two side by side.(source) The friction heatmap, which overlays rage clicks, dead clicks and error clicks on the page, is the one Shopify merchants will get the most from.
Where it wins. Breadth, and depth on friction and forms. If your conversion problem is form-shaped, Mouseflow’s per-field form analytics are the deepest here.
Where it falls short for Shopify. No Shopify App Store listing, no Shopify-specific filters, and most of the seven types answer questions a storefront rarely asks (geo heatmaps, interactive maps). Shopify stores typically have two forms that matter, checkout and newsletter capture, and checkout is off-limits anyway.
Pricing. Free up to 500 sessions a month. Essential $25/mo on annual billing for 5,000 sessions, Advanced $109/mo, Premium $319/mo, Enterprise custom.(source) The breakdown is in Mouseflow pricing 2026.
Pick Mouseflow when form analytics or friction-event triage is your weekly work. Don’t pick Mouseflow when you want a one-toggle Shopify install and filters that speak Shopify.
7. Crazy Egg: scroll maps plus A/B testing
Crazy Egg is the original heatmap tool, and it remains a heatmap-first product with A/B testing bolted on.
Heatmap types. Five report types: click map, scroll map, confetti map (individual clicks as dots, segmentable by traffic source, operating system, UTM and more), overlay map and list map, with AI analysis on every report and side-by-side comparison of any two heatmaps.(source) Heatmaps auto-segment by device.
Where it wins. Confetti maps are a genuinely different way to read clicks, and built-in A/B testing from the Plus tier means you can test the fix in the same tool that found the problem.
Where it falls short for Shopify. Not a Shopify app: you paste a snippet, and there is no Shopify-specific filter set. Heatmap reports are capped per plan (5 on Starter), which is tight for a store with a dozen product pages worth watching. Recordings are capped too (50 a month on Starter).
Pricing. 30-day free trial, then Starter $29/mo on annual billing for 5,000 tracked pageviews and 5 heatmap reports, Plus $99/mo for 150,000 pageviews and 75 reports with A/B testing, Pro $249/mo, Enterprise $599/mo.(source)
Pick Crazy Egg when scroll maps and A/B testing in one tool are the point and Shopify-fit is not. Don’t pick Crazy Egg when you want unlimited heatmaps or Shopify-native filtering.

Prices and ratings read on 26 October 2026 from each vendor’s pricing page or Shopify App Store listing. “Shopify-native” means the app is built on Shopify primitives and its filters understand Shopify customers and orders, not merely that it can be installed on a Shopify store.
How to actually choose: the one-week test
Spec sheets do not decide heatmap tool fit. Install two free tiers on the same store, wait a week for your top product page to accumulate a few hundred sessions, then open the mobile click heatmap of that page in both tools and answer three questions:
- Which tool made the device switch one click away?
- Which tool let you go from the hot spot to the recordings behind it?
- Which dashboard did you open on day five without reminding yourself to?
The third answer is the one that matters. A heatmap you look at every Monday beats a heatmap with seven map types you opened once.
If you want to start with Propel, install Propel Replays from the Shopify App Store: free up to 750 pageviews a month, unlimited heatmaps, no credit card, first recordings within 30 seconds of install.
